- Graduated with a Master of Science by Thesis from Durham University
- May 17th 1995 reached the summit of Everest from Tibet
- 1996 awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International
- 1996 made an ‘Ambassador for Sport’ by Sport England
- 1998 awarded an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list
- May 5th 1999 reached the summit of Everest from Nepal, and in doing so became the first British climber to have summited Everest from both the North and the South, and the first British climber to have summited Everest twice.
